Enticing Violence Empyrean Chronicles Book 2 eBook Theresa M Jones
As I said in my review of the first book in the series, I often find it to be a turn off when a fantasy novel goes overboard. In many fantasy novels, I become bored with the extreme attention given to world building. I find however, that Theresa Jones makes the story the main focus and that's why I read a book. Of course we learn about setting and history as the story moves forward but it isn't explained in pages and pages of intricate details. Enticing Violence is a fast moving adventure with stops along the way to appreciate the scenery and learn more about this new realm that Lily is still adjusting to.The story is hard to put down. The pacing is fast as the characters desperately search for their friend. There is quite a bit of violence (hence the title) and fighting and some really creative characters, my favorite being the White Stag, who was not only written beautifully but could become invisible and travel to different places in seconds. I loved how it spoke to Lily telepathically. Lily and Alec are still the main focus and I also like how the author didn't follow the typical romance path of putting the couple together just to rip them apart over and over again. While they certainly had a few bumps in the road, they stayed strong for the most part and weren't separated for long periods of time. I liked the show of power they demonstrated together.
I'm not sure how many books are planned for the series but I will definitely keep reading them. Lily is on a mission and will eventually take her rightful place on the throne. I look forward to seeing how it all plays through and what final path each character chooses to take.

Enticing Violence Empyrean Chronicles Book 2 eBook Theresa M Jones Reviews
MINOR SPOILERS
We start off with a little time skip after the end of Enchanted Revenge. It's a few months later after Lily's rescue and we are back with Lily and Alec in the Rebel group fighting to find and kill the Lily's tormentors. While I enjoyed this, I feel like we skipped all the PTSD that Lily should have had after the end of the first book. We skip right to where she's back on her feet fighting. Now I don't want to read all the torment she experiences trying to mentally and physically overcome her abuse but I do feel like she needed to overcome that at least a little considering all the torture they did to her. Seemed unrealistic and something that is skimmed over that bothered me.
I still enjoy Lily and Alec's relationship and them as characters. Lily is continues to be relatable and Alec is still a sweetie. I'm surprised they didn't try to train Lily to use her sylph powers more. She didn't learn to fly until about 2/3rds of the way in the book. Why hasn't she pushed to learn to fly right away? I know I would have. I still forget that Alec is ages older than Lily, especially when he doesn't really act like it. I would have liked to see him act older but he still just acts like a teenage boy to me. I do like the pop culture references but they seem a little odd for me now. They seem a bit random and forced. I hate to say that especially when I love the references. It just didn't seem to fit this story as much this time around since they stayed in Empyrean the entire time.
The new characters are interesting, I particularly liked Zach, Annie, and Dan. I always liked Rita. There had been more characters but they were so minor they weren't even given names or were mentioned once. I wonder if they were really necessary to the story at all. I feel that they could have been changed or merged with other characters to reduce minor characters and to make the existing ones more complex.
I liked the overall plot but it seemed one-tracked and simple. I like complex stories with subplots but if you like one-tracked plots, you'll enjoy this story. I'm especially glad we got to explore other parts of Empyrean and how it affects the other breeds of Fae. I enjoyed how we learn more about the other Fae and their back history of this world.
I struggled with the pacing more this time around. I really wanted to like it more but even though I read the entire story, I feel like not much happened. I didn't feel the story was as substantial as it could have been. The climax was almost great but the way it had been told seemed slow and felt like the bad guy could have striked them down in the amount of time the were figuring out their plan. I loved the idea, I just feel like it could have been executed more efficiently.
Again, I didn't love how the book ended. Don't get me wrong, I love the moment we were in, but I didn't love how it just ended there with too many loose ends. I would have liked to see them finish rescuing their other friend before it ended.
3.2 out of 5 rating for me!

Oh man.
So, I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this series. I loved reading all about this whole new world.
In Enticing Violence, I get to see even more of this world.
I will say though, it seems to be getting darker. This first book was dark, dead parents, captures and torturing. But this one upped the suspense and action. I mean, the very first chapter has a raid, and fighting.
So, they're all looking for the last Mortem Member, right. The one that got away. But there's a traitor, and somehow the guards know where all the Rebels will be. They get captured, and Lynn gets seperated. And since Lily remembers now what the Abada told her, she is super afraid Lynn is going to die.
And they have to try to find her. But Alec and Lily are having issues of their own to deal with, too. They're trying to understand how their relationship fits into this world thats literally dying.
But its still so sweet, they way you can see and feel the care and affection they have for each other.
Anyways, they go back to Rita, and try to get her help. But then her crazy dad (the Lord) is trying to get rid of Lily.
And the end!
Man!
My heart stopped.
I really love this world, and these characters!
And I cant wait for the next book already!
Dang, it's happening again. Did a 'Before You Go' review in Unlimited, and it just disappeared. Went back and it didn't even show a review option. Just an fyi, people. Anyways...
Totally action packed 2nd series entry. Violence isn't sugar coated, but not gratuitous or glorified. Romance is still being nicely done and that's a high compliment. Like the way Lily's good heart is reaffirmed independently, and that she keeps checking herself and questions that status regularly. Way above average world building. Lots to show the author has some real writing & storytelling skills.
